The Infinite Horizon - Bita Takrimi

The horizon calls to me—
not as a destination,
but as a question.
Each morning, it waits,
its edges blurred by the rising sun,
its distance both a promise and a warning.
"Come closer," it whispers,"
but know that I will not stay.
The closer you come, the farther I will move."
I walk toward it,
not with hope,
but with a quiet resolve.
My steps are slow,
weighted by the places I have left behind:
a house filled with laughter and dust,
a river that remembers my reflection,
a tree whose branches once cradled my dreams.
I do not ask the horizon for answers.
I only ask to meet it,
to stand where the sky and earth touch,
if only for a moment.
For in that meeting,
perhaps I will find the truth:
that life is not a journey to be completed,
but a path to be walked,
endlessly,
without regret.
Bita Takrimi is a poet, scholar and translator proficient in Russian, Polish, Czech, and Persian. Several of her poems have been published, and she has translated a variety of poetic works.
